Monkey is a concertina-style children’s book designed to help young readers understand that change can be a good thing. Through a series of beautifully illustrated panels, it tells the story of a little monkey’s journey from the lush green jungle to the towering cityscape, exploring themes of adaptation, resilience, and growth.
With two contrasting sides—one full of rich greenery, the other washed in beige and grey—the book visually represents the shift from nature to an urban environment. Inspired by my move from a green, open space to a dense city, Monkey reflects the challenges and discoveries that come with stepping into the unknown.
In the jungle, the stars shine, the nights are quiet, and life is familiar. But the city is different—the lights replace the stars, and nature feels distant. Though it’s exciting, Monkey misses home. So, she brings a piece of it with her, building her indoor jungle. Over time, the high-rises, noise, and pollution become part of her new normal.
Monkey encourages children to embrace new experiences, find comfort in the unfamiliar, and carry what they love with them wherever they go. Through simple storytelling and engaging illustrations, it reassures young readers that change isn’t just inevitable—it’s an opportunity for growth.
